(More customer reviews)The yellow filter holder is of good quality and comparable with original Dyson part, or so it seems. The blue foam insert is made out of very different foam than what Dyson had used. I don't know for sure, but I assume that the filtration characteristics of the foam are critical to the performance, longevity and safety of operation. The air passing through the foam becomes the cooling air for the motor. If there was too much dust, or if the foam would clog faster than Dyson's, motor damage could potentially result. I decided to play it safe and get the foam from Dyson, but use the yellow holder as mine got brittle with age and broke.

Dyson Aftermarket DC07 Internal Hose Review

(More customer reviews)Great price...I thought. The grey plastic fitting that comes with this hose is slightly smaller in diameter, and made of a less-flexible plastic. These two differences, are quite enough to, make it impossible to attach this fitting to the body of the vacuum. Thankfully, I did not throw away my old hose before this new one arrived. I am good at fixing new things that do not work right, but it is disappointing. I was able to swap the new fitting with the old one, and all was well. Now, I am left wondering if eight bucks was really a good deal for a six inch length if hose. Perhaps it is, I did not shop around for plain hose. If you do get this, keep your old hose; you will need the grey fitting!

(More customer reviews)I bought this Dyson upright vac about a year ago. Without question, its suction power is the best I've seen...the carpet looks brand new after you vacuum. I have read some reviews that say it is not the best on hard floors, but I haven't expereinced any problems...I use it on hardwood, tile, and laminate (just be sure to change the setting from "carpet" to "hard floor." I am surprised to find that the detachable cleaning device is extremely hard to use. To say that it is unweildy would be an understatement. The attachment is a wand that is about 3 feet long, attached to a flexible hose. While the length of the hose portion does allow you to move around a bit while cleaning, the rigid 3-feet-long wand is heavy and impossible to control. It is OK for sweeping tight spots on the floor, such as between/under furniture, but forget about using it to sweep furniture or stairs. I will keep my Dyson because of its good performance on carpet & floors, but I will need to purchase another vacuum that will allow me to clean furniture.

(More customer reviews)Buyer, beware. Compared to other vacs (and I've owned several models by different manufacturers over the years), the Dyson has many more cons than pros. And replacing the brush bar is one of the cons. Within the 6-year warranty of my DC15, this will be the THIRD brush bar. The brushes have worn down completely even though the vac has been used according to directions and only on berber carpet.
It is also a difficult chore disassembling the cover to make the replacement. (For all its engineering, this assembly is poorly designed and appears to have had many afterthoughts in the process.)
Also, if you ever have to buy a replacement part, buying from Dyson Direct will subject you to backorders (for me, as long as three months). However, Dyson will go ahead and charge your card immediately, and, though this part of their company is in the U.S., Dyson also will charge an (unmentioned) international fee for currency exchange. Thank goodness, this time I found the part on Amazon!! Dyson's phone reps seem to understand the difficulties of doing business with Dyson and have always been apologetic, one rep even telling me they have explained consumer complaints to the company to no avail. Because of this I have dreaded ever needing any Dyson service and will be trading out this albatross of a vac this year.
UPDATE: I did order this part through Amazon, and it was fulfilled by ARBOR VAC. --Definitely would use Arbor Vac again; qualified for free shipping yet still rec'd the part four days after ordering. Also the price at $29.95 was better than Dyson Direct two years ago.

I was in no particular hurry, so this wasn't a problem. The product arrived with one corner chipped out, making it difficult to install. I swapped ends with my old brush to get an undamaged part to be able to install. Everything else went like clockwork.
I didn't send the damaged part back because I just didn't want to deal with the hassle. Time is an important commodity for everyone. I found the price to be fair.
As the piece that was broken was in the shipping package, I'm assuming it was broken in transit. Perhaps better packaging could be of help. All in all, I would recommend this product and supplier.

I was one of the idiots who never washed the original filter with my machine until all of a sudden it was completely clogged and my vacuum stopped sucking! A suck-less vacuum really...well...it sucks! I needed my vacuum to suck again and went and found some helpful info online about washing the filter that included the line that I needed to wait a full 24 hours for the filter to completely dry before reinstalling and using my Dyson again. I washed the filter in the dead of winter and ended up having to wait a lot longer than 24 hours for it to completely dry during which time my house was being taken over by dust bunnies and floating clumps of cat hair and that is what prompted the purchase of this filter. Now I can constantly keep a spare filter cleaned and ready for use! WOO HOO!

What IS a pain about saving some $$$ getting this vs the genuine part is that you'll have to peel off the rubber gasket off of the old one and glue it to either the vacuum housing along the lower lip or to the new filter to get a tight seal. I chose the former, using Goop to set the old gasket in place.

Whereas our old vacuum would just spit out the dirt as it passed over it, this attachment works great at getting all of the dust and hair that gathers along the edges of our tiled floors. I use the Dyson without tools on our carpet and then I put this attachment on to do under the sofa and tables and all of our tiled surfaces. Works great!

(More customer reviews)This Dyson will suck an elephant out of a tree. When it comes to doing what a vacuum is supposed to do, it has no peers. Having said that I will now say that it is the worst piece of design engineering I have ever seen. First off, when you take it out of the box and don't, very precisely, follow the directions for putting it together, you will live to regret it Terribly. Second, there are more buttons to push, and disconnects and inspection holes to open than the average Stennis class aircraft carrier. I quit counting at fourteen. I'm sure Dyson keeps the guy who did this design work locked up in cage and feeds him bananas. If you are not handy and if you are not good at figuring out how things work, don't touch this machine with a ten, fifteen or even a twenty foot pole. If Mr. Dyson would look at his return history I'm sure he would find that most people who send this machine back have thrown up their hands in frustration and screamed, "Get this %$@#%$ thing out of my house." Quantum mechanics is probably easier.

LG Kompressor Total Care Upright Vacuum Cleaner, LuV400T Review

(More customer reviews)I never thought I would love a vacuum - but this one is great. I have lots of dust and dog hair because I live in a dry climate with 2 dogs that shed a lot. I have owned several Hoover Wind Tunnels and also a Bissell pet hair vacuum. The Hoovers have those paper cylinder filters that get dust covered and have to be cleaned off multiple times each time I vacuum or it cuts the suction. The Bissell is better but does not have nearly the suction that the LG has.
The suction on the LG is so great that dog hair and dust bunnies on hard floors are sucked up if they are just close to the vacuum. The way it compacts the dirt is also great which makes it very easy to empty the dirt cannister without having dust and dirt flying everywhere.
Another great feature is the automatic shutoff on the brush head if something like a sock gets sucked up and stuck. You just remove the stuck item and then push the reset button. This helps minimize the damage on the item sucked up, but is really designed to protect the vacuum.
I also have a lot of hardwood floors and have had absolutely no problems using the vacuum the same way I do on carpet. I think there is just a misunderstanding on the instruction manual because it says one of the wands is for hardwood floors. You don't need to use a wand to do the hardwood floors.
The only issue I have is that the suction is so strong even with the high setting that it does suck up the edge of small throw rugs. However I am willing to work around this to get the great suction this vacuum has. I have never had a bagless or bagged vacuum with the suction this machine has.
I am surprised that LG doesn't advertise it or a lot more people would buy it. I bought it because the Consumer Reports rating said it had suction as good as bagged vacuums - and with the amount of dog hair I vacuum up I didn't want to go back to paying for bags.

Dyson DC17 Asthma & Allergy Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

(More customer reviews)Just purchased the DC 17 allergy and asthma today. Have done a lot of research over the last week and read many reviews. I really wanted a good vacuum I can depend on; I have 6 kids and vacuum daily! Best I can tell each model has the same amount of suction, they just have different options in color, filter placement/type and attachments. I was set on the DC14 model but this was on sale for a great price and had a few more attachments I felt I would really use. So far I am pleased. It appears to pick up as expected, I'm pretty impressed with the amount of junk in the canister and my carpets feel cleaner. This is very easy to maneuver; I see no need for the more expensive ball model, unless you will use all the fancy attachments. All the full size Dyson's felt heavy to me in the store, so I was concerned with getting it up and down the stairs, but in comparison to Hoover etc. they all seem to be about the same weight and hey we could all use a good workout. I find no issues with pushing it around, it moves with great ease and transitions surfaces flawlessly. Turning the beater off to move from carpet to solid floors is a breeze and the feature works wonderfully, just a touch of an easy to reach button. The attachments fit on firmly and do not fall off. The wand will take some getting use to as it is solid for about 18+" and I am use to the hose being flexible at the base. I don't have to bend as much using it though so my back is happy! The hose is very easy to remove for use, just cannot use it for quick pick-ups until you unwind the entire plug, so one minor downfall. It states there is a 5 year warranty, I did not read what all that covers, I will just be relieved to have a vacuum last more than a year with the beating I give them. It is important as with ALL canister vacuums that you tap or wipe out the excess dust from the chamber weekly. I have had many canister vacuums and learned early on to do this often to keep the fine dust from building up or you will loose suction. The filter is easy to remove and clean by running under tap water, so will save on replacement filters in the future! Overall I am happy; we will see how I feel at the 6 mo. And 1 yr. mark. But no regrets today. The only negative I can agree with that I have seen over the last week is the not being able to remove the wand without unwinding the entire cord.

Replacement Dyson DC07/DC14 Clutch Assembly #900252-04 Review

(More customer reviews)After 5 years of good service, my DC07 brush just stopped spinning. At first, I thought, no problem, just buy a new belt. Not with the Dyson. After a lot of research, when I found that you had to replace this clutch assembly, I seriously thought about just buying a new vac, but figured - wth - for (...) or so I'll give it a shot. There is a beautiful step-by-step instruction procedure on an Internet site which specializes in giving repair advice on Dyson vacs. The whole process took about 40 minutes, not counting the time I needed to go out and get a T-15 Torx screwdriver, which is absolutely essential to the process (make sure you have one of these before you start. Just be patient, follow the instructions, and you can do it.
My problem was caused by accumulated cat hair which the person (unnamed) who used the Dyson didn't take the time to simply clean out of the brushbar after each use. This built-up mess eventually causes the brush to be harder to turn, which heats up the belts and stretches them to the point that they don't have enough friction to spin the brushbar anymore. Probably could have gotten away with just replacing the belts, but you have to take the clutch out to do that, and for the additional few dollars it makes sense to replace the clutch as well. It was also a good opportunity to thoroughly clean all of the parts which had to be removed.

In retrospect, I'm glad I did this complicated, but not at all difficult task, as I now have what amounts to a good-as-new vac for (...). As long as you clean the filters as directed and exercise common sense in maintaining this machine, I can't see why it won't last for a long while.
